Conversion Formulas
A teaspoon and tablespoon are non-SI measures of volume, with four different values - US and Imperial Teaspoon and Tablespoon. All four units can be expressed as:
1 US Tablespoon = 0.5 US Fluid Ounce = 14.78675 milliliters
1 Imp Tablespoon = 0.625 Imp Fluid Ounces = 17.7582 milliliters
1 US Teaspoon = 1/6 US Fluid Ounces = 4.92892 milliliters
1 Imp Teaspoon = 0.208333 Imp Fluid Ounces = 5.91939 milliliters
Thus, in order to convert volume given in teaspoons into volume given in tablespoons and vice versa, use these formulas:
V(US teaspoon)= 3 * V(US tablespoon)
V(Imp teaspoon)= 3 * V(Imp tablespoon)
Thus we can write:
V(teaspoon) = 3 * V(tablespoon)
V(tablespoon) = V(teaspoon) / 3
For short, one tablespoon, regardless if it is US or Imperial, contains 3 teaspoons. Or one teaspoon contains 1/3 of a tablespoon.
Conversion Examples
If You have 18 tablespoons (US/Imp), how many teaspoons is that:
V(tablespoons)= V(teaspoon) / 3 = 18 / 3 = 6 tablespoons
